will someone please point me in the direction of some brilliant writing? i don't mean meaningless nonsensical phrases marauding as "free form poetry" or dry didactic essays. i need something truly illuminating.

cuz i am SO stuck.

Bittersweet dark chocolate, enfolded in leaves of gold
One flake drifts to my tongue, like snow, like rain, fallen, gone.
A bright flame, licking the sullen sky, a Clementine
Tucked in my palms, my brilliant secret of daylight
Two flashes of sunlight on a hoary winter’s morning
Dazzling and radiant, slip into my skin, fire.

Mmm, note to remember: poetry can be in simple words (Morris notwithstanding); it doesn't have to be jam-packed with flicks and flashes of pretty images that don't string together well. Pick one image, one feeling, one crystalline moment that is poetry in 3D. Then reconstruct it in words. Keep it simple - writing is for communication, and there's no point in writing if the reader is completely bewildered by your "artistic" flourishes.

It's the hour of thieves
And insomniac thrills
Clandestine meetings of lovers
And still, not a soul to be seen
The world could be dead
Devoid of humanity
Bereft of mans bread

One brilliant stanza of an okay poem. The rest of the poems there are decent, with some outstanding moments - see what works and what doesn't, for you.

Mmm... remember this? And this? Also, this is ancient but beautiful, even in translation.

Dunno how much of that you'll find helpful... ^^;;; Jia yoh!

Oh, and some songs can be excellent poetry too (though it's also an effect of the music and not just the lyrics, perhaps). A couple that I favor:

Stare at the Sun, Thrice, Simon, Lifehouse, Jack Straw, Grateful Dead, and Goo Goo Dolls stuff.

This from an amateur writer writing fanfiction, but I think there are parts of it that are really good. here. It's basically every other ~*~ where's there no dialogue and just writing of emotions and thoughts

if you're going for poetry, I'd probably suggest ancient poetry from ancient civilizations.
